Elaine peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. She was surrounded by her husband Don, son Sean, sister Leslie, sister Carol, Carol's husband Dennis, and several of her co-workers from St. Elizabeth's, who helped explained the medical happenings. The Chaplain blessed Elaine Gordon Smith Hayes and lead in the Lord's Prayer. Her boys Don and Sean held her hands. The staff in the Neuro ICU were wonderful in their professionalism and care of Elaine and all of us. Elaine would have be proud of the group. Her caregiving and loving soul was recipricated by many during her days in the hospital, and especially at the end.
